Hey everyone! Today, I'm going to introduce you to the most impressive part of my Pohang trip - the 'Guryongpo Japanese House Street'. This place gives you a feeling like time has stopped, and it's super hot on social media. So, I just had to check it out myself.

A Place Where History Breathes
Guryongpo Japanese House Street preserves the look of the 1930s during the Japanese colonial period. When I first arrived, it felt like I had traveled back in time in a time machine. Walking along the narrow alleys and looking at the Japanese-style houses created a really unique atmosphere.
What caught my eye were the buildings made of red bricks. With so many of these style buildings lined up, it was like stepping into a scene from a Japanese movie. As you walk down the street, you can also see old post office and bank buildings, which was fascinating as they've preserved their appearance from that time so well.
There's also a history museum in Guryongpo. Here, you can learn in detail about the history of Guryongpo and stories from the Japanese colonial period. It's a sad history, but I think it's something we definitely need to remember.
Instagram-Worthy Photo Spots
Thanks to this special atmosphere, Guryongpo is a really great place for taking pictures! I managed to get some amazing shots while wandering around. The photo spot I especially want to recommend is the 'Red Mailbox'. There's an old-style mailbox, and if you take a picture in front of it, it comes out really pretty.
The murals between the alleys are really beautiful too. You can see various styles of murals from old scenery paintings to cute characters. Taking pictures in front of these murals gives you a movie poster vibe.
Another highlight is the sea! Guryongpo is located on the coast, so the view of the sea between the houses is really stunning. Especially if you go around sunset, the silhouettes of the old buildings blend with the sunset, creating a fantastic atmosphere. The photos I took at this time are my favorite shots!
From Restaurants to Cafes: A Foodie Tour Course
The charm of travel is definitely exploring good restaurants! Guryongpo has more delicious places than I expected. Especially since it's on the coast, you can taste fresh seafood dishes. I highly recommend trying Guryongpo gwamegi (half-dried Pacific herring). It might be unfamiliar at first, but once you try it, you'll fall for its nutty flavor!
And trendy cafes are popping up here and there these days. Many of them are renovated old buildings, which gives them really unique interiors. It was a different experience to enjoy a cup of coffee while appreciating a building in its original old form.
One cafe I visited had an amazing sea view from the second floor. Drinking coffee while looking at the sea through the window, that moment was so happy. When I posted it on Instagram, all my friends were asking where it was!
Guryongpo Japanese House Street is truly a special place. You can feel the pain of history, but at the same time, it's a place where beautiful scenery, delicious food, and a unique atmosphere all come together. It's perfect for a weekend getaway.
